On 27 July at 6 PM Korean Local Time, DAY6’s Young K released his second solo studio album, YOUNGEST, as well as the Music Video for his title track, Shut The Door.
Young K (Run For Roses by NMIXX) participated in the writing and production of Shut The Door, and every other track on the album, and he was joined by long-time collaborator and JYP Entertainment Songwriter and Producer Lee Woomin a.k.a collapsedone (The Feels & Feel Special by TWICE) for Shut The Door, among other tracks on the album.
The music video uses the sitcom genre to create a striking contrast between the moments he has faced as the artist Young K and the scenes he has longed for. The door, used as a prop, serves as a device for travelling through various times and spaces, whilst the fast-paced direction enhances the sense of immersion. In addition, through a variety of teaser content, he has shared with fans the process of confronting the many facets and emotions within Young K and discovering fresh sides to his personality.
Shut The Door is a song in which he has poured out his honest feelings as if writing in a diary. It conveys the hope that, whilst this is something that could happen to anyone, it will never happen to anyone. Depicting moments when, with the door shut, he repeats to himself that he will be alright, the track’s upbeat rhythm is enhanced by a fast tempo rooted in synth-pop and a punchy snare sound.
YOUNGEST, contains his answers to the questions he has asked himself over a long period of time. Through a long musical journey that purely and honestly expresses the existence of various facets he has come to acknowledge whilst passing through countless seasons, as well as the new discoveries he has encountered, he guides listeners into a world unique to Young K.
