On July 16th at Midnight KST, THE 8 of SEVENTEEN and Sub-Unit V8 released the music video for the electropop dance track 8DM, which is his solo track from V8‘s self-titled 1st Album.
According to Melon 8DM started with a wordplay interpreting EDM as ‘Experience Dance Music.’ By changing the first letter to ‘8,’ it emphasizes the message of ‘inviting listeners to this music in THE 8‘s own unique way.
The track evokes the lights of a Berlin club seen during the production process, featuring an immersive intro, a drop section where tension reaches its peak, and a kick bass that bursts forth at that moment, delivering an intense sense of liberation.
8DM was co-written and co-produced THE 8 himself, Chinese-born multidisciplinary artist Alice Longyu Gao (Gnarly by KATSEYE), producer UHD (rat race by V8), artist & producer Stella Smyth .
8DM is also co-written and co-produced by two members of South Korean collective Dream Perfect Regime (DPR), DPR ARTIC (The Show by DPR IAN), and DPR CREAM (Text Me by DPR LIVE) aswell as South Korean Producer Hakaseee (The Show by DPR IAN).
In a Billboard interview, THE 8 stated that 8DM was created as he “really got into EDM was at an underground club in Berlin. From then, I really began to study and listen to more of it. There are a lot of different genres of EDM, but through this album, I thought about how to create EDM as THE 8.”
He finally shated “I wanted to make something more challenging and more inclusive than any specific EDM genre, which is how I came up with this title.”
