The Production Breakdown: ROSÉ Releases Music Video for Pop-Rock Track New Trick as Part of Shot On iPhone 18 Pro Campaign
On September 18 at 8 a.m. KST, ROSÉ released the music video for new trick, which was created as part of Apple’s international Shot on iPhone campaign, filmed entirely with the new iPhone 18 Pro.
The official music video was directed by Dave Meyers, the same director of BLACKPINK’s “뛰어 (JUMP)” music video, ROSÉ revealed that she co-wrote the track with Amy Allen two days after she attended the Met Gala in New York,
This song was written during a hectic week, I think two days after the Met Gala in New York. Hadn’t been able to relate to or write sad songs lately…which was a crazy thing to say, after how addicted I was to writing sad song after sad song for my Rosie album.
new trick is about refusing to give up in the face of life’s wounds and hardships caused by love. It marks a complete departure from her previous melancholic ballads, opting instead for a cheerful, energetic sound with distinct pop-rock vibes:
Ultimately, we successfully wrote something so not sad, and I think it is possibly the cutest thing we’ve ever made together […] I loved being that girl and channeling that energy in the studio, which felt as if I was channeling that girl into myself. The energy and thrill it was giving me, I was so excited to share that with the world.
new trick was produced and co-written by world-renowned American record producer, songwriter, and singer Amy Allen, who has worked on Manchild, Juno & Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, drop dead by Olivia Rodrigo and APT by ROSÉ & Bruno Mars.
new trick was also co-written by platinum-selling producer, songwriter, and Andrew Wells, based in Los Angeles, California. He has worked on Want You Back by 5 Seconds of Summer, Born Again by LISA, Raye & Doja Cat, and stay a little longer by ROSÉ.
